How to choose driveway gravel
A long-lasting gravel driveway is built in layers. Most projects use 2–3 sizes: a large base stone for stability, a middle layer to lock things in, and a smaller top layer that’s comfortable to walk and drive on.
1 · Base layer
2–3” stone, 4” deep. Carries the weight and keeps the driveway from sinking.
2 · Middle layer
1–1.5” gravel, 3–4” deep. Locks into the base and sheds water.
3 · Top layer
3/8”–3/4” gravel, 2–3” deep. Smooth surface that’s easy on tires, feet and paws.
