Mulch ordered online by the ton. A dump truck delivers to your Ferris address and unloads right where you point.
The most common mistake with mulch in Ferris is not accounting for washout from the 41 inches of precipitation the area gets each year. Without a deeper base and the right material, rain can carry mulch into lawns and beds.
The correction is to choose a heavier shredded hardwood mulch that locks together. That slows runoff and keeps the mulch where you want it.
Mulch falls into two categories: base materials that sit underneath and finish materials that top off the bed. For Ferris, shredded hardwood works as both because it locks together and resists washout.
| Product | What it's for | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Shredded Hardwood Mulch | beds, borders, tree rings, weed suppression | Locks together well to resist washout during Ferris's heavy rain and runoff. |
For budget-conscious projects, a basic shredded hardwood works. For long-term weed suppression and less frequent replacement, choose a thicker application.
| Project | What to order | Depth or note |
|---|---|---|
| Weed suppression | Shredded Hardwood Mulch | Thicker layer yields better results |
| Refreshing existing beds | Shredded Hardwood Mulch | Top up to maintain coverage |
| Tree rings | Shredded Hardwood Mulch | Keep away from trunk |
| New planting beds | Shredded Hardwood Mulch | Prep soil before applying |
| Slope where mulch washes out | Shredded Hardwood Mulch | Use extra depth to hold in place |
Ferris gets about 55 wet days a year, days with at least a tenth of an inch of rain. That means scheduling delivery onto firm ground is important. A dry stretch makes it easier to spread and work the mulch.
The ground around Ferris takes water in very slowly, so most rain runs off the surface. This soil behavior means drainage and a deeper base matter more than in other places. Without proper preparation, mulch can shift or wash away.
Ferris sees about 38 days a year drop below freezing. Ground freezing here is moderate. Most of this work runs spring to fall, and the ground is workable for most of that stretch.
Tonnage depends on the area you want to cover and the depth you choose. Use our mulch calculator to get an estimate for your specific site. The calculator asks for square footage and depth and returns the tons needed.

The delivery date is chosen at checkout and must be at least 3 business days after the order date. You pick a delivery window: morning 7 am to 12 pm, or afternoon 12 pm to 5 pm. A valid phone number is required to confirm the delivery. Orders without one can be delayed or rescheduled.
You get an email confirmation when the order is placed, then a second email closer to the date with the scheduled window and a photo of the material being loaded. Delivery goes ahead only after you approve that second email. You agree to be available, or to have someone you nominate at the site, during the delivery window.
The site needs a road width of at least 12 feet for the truck. If access is restricted, the crew unloads as close to the requested spot as they safely can. If the delivery cannot be completed because of blocked access, hazards or nobody being there, a missed delivery or redelivery fee can apply and the order is not refunded.
Cancellations more than 24 hours after the order is placed carry a 25 percent processing fee. Orders cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled delivery are not refundable. Once you approve the second confirmation email, the order cannot be cancelled or refunded.
Inspect the delivery within 48 hours and photograph anything that looks wrong. Claims need photos and must be raised in that window. Gravel Monkey corrects a wrong material, wrong delivery location, or quality outside industry norms. It does not cover site access problems, changes caused by weather after delivery, or natural variation in color, shape and texture.
Haulers take care, but Gravel Monkey is not responsible for damage to driveways, structures or landscaping. Confirming the property can take a heavy truck is the customer's responsibility. Gravel Monkey is a national aggregate broker, sourcing from a network of regional suppliers, so the exact product, size and color vary by region.
Yes. Ferris sees about 38 days a year below freezing, which is enough to cause moderate ground freezing. That affects how well mulch stays in place through freeze-thaw cycles. A shredded hardwood mulch locks together better than loose materials during those shifts.
Yes. The soil around Ferris takes water in very slowly, so most rain runs off the surface. That means you need a mulch that resists washout and a deeper base beneath it. Shredded hardwood works well because it mats together.
The truck needs a road width of at least 12 feet. If access is tight, the crew unloads as close as they safely can. Make sure the path is clear of obstacles.
A depth of 2 to 3 inches is typical for most beds. On slopes, apply a thicker layer. Shredded hardwood breaks down slowly and usually needs a top-up every one to two years.
