Gravel and rock come in many sizes and shapes. The table below lists what we carry for delivery in Pennsylvania.
| Product | Best for | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 3/8" Natural Pea Gravel | Play areas, patios | Rounded and smooth, comfortable underfoot for seating areas. |
| River Rock | Beds, borders, dry creek beds | Available in many sizes; natural color blends well. |
| 2-4" River Rock | Larger decorative cover and erosion control | Heavy stones that stay put on slopes and in swales. |
| Drain Rock | French drains and dry wells | Clean, angular stone that lets water pass freely. |
| Decomposed Granite | Paths and patios that compact firm | Compacts to a hard, stable surface that resists rutting. |
| Crusher Run | Compacting base under everything | Contains fines; compacts to a solid foundation for pavers and asphalt. |
| Road Base | Lanes and pads that carry trucks | Engineered mix for load-bearing driveways and parking areas. |
The right product depends on the problem you need to solve. This table matches common projects to the best material.
| Project | What to order | Depth or note |
|---|---|---|
| Path that stays firm | Decomposed Granite | Compacted 2 to 3 inches deep over a geotextile base. |
| Landscape beds | River Rock | 2 to 3 inches deep for weed suppression. |
| French drain | Drain Rock | 12 to 18 inches deep in a trench lined with fabric. |
| Dry creek bed | 2-4" River Rock | 3 to 4 inches deep for a natural, flowing look. |
| Erosion control on a slope | 2-4" River Rock | 4 to 6 inches deep to hold soil on grades. |
Across the cities we deliver to in Pennsylvania, annual precipitation runs from about 42 to 49 inches. That much rain means drainage is critical: gravel that allows water to pass, like drain rock or river rock, helps keep your yard from turning into mud.
Freezing days range from about 111 to 161 days a year below 32F. Most of the state sits in the severe band for ground freezing. Deeper frost lines mean road bases and driveways need a thicker layer of crusher run or road base to avoid frost heave. Hard freezes shape the calendar here, so base work is easier to get right from late spring through fall.
PennDOT runs a spring load-restriction program each year to protect roads during thaw. This can affect delivery timing in some areas, so the exact restrictions are factored into your checkout date.

Estimating tonnage depends on the area you want to cover and the depth you need. For a 2-inch layer, one ton of pea gravel covers roughly 100 square feet; heavier rock covers less. Use our material calculators to get a precise number for your project.
Ordering gravel and rock online by the ton is straightforward. At checkout you choose a delivery date at least 3 business days out and pick a window: morning, 7 am to 12 pm, or afternoon, 12 pm to 5 pm. You provide a valid phone number and give your email. After placing the order, you get a confirmation email. Closer to the date, we send a second email with the scheduled window and a photo of the material being loaded. You must approve that email before the delivery proceeds.
Delivery is by dump truck to your address. Loads range from 1 ton to 40+ tons. Some orders qualify for free delivery; your total is shown at checkout. Deliveries can be scheduled year-round. Because Pennsylvania experiences 111 to 161 days below freezing per year, base work is easier from late spring through fall. You choose a delivery date at checkout that is at least 3 business days after the order date.
