Walkway Gravel ordered online by the ton. A dump truck delivers to your New Bern address and unloads right where you point.

If you are putting in a garden path or a side-yard walk, you need a surface that drains well and stays put. New Bern gets about 57 inches of precipitation a year, so washout is a real concern. Walkway Gravel and 3/8" Walkway Gravel are two good starting points.
The right size depends on how much foot traffic the path gets and how formal you want it to look. Larger stone shifts less underfoot but is harder to walk on.
Some walkway gravels work better as base material, while others are meant for the finished surface. The table below lists the sizes we carry and what each is best for.
| Product | Best for | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Walkway Gravel | General path and walkway surfacing | All-purpose blend, works for most residential paths. |
| 3/8" Walkway Gravel | Small, even, easy to walk on | Good for bare feet or light shoes; packs firmly. |
| 3/4" Walkway Gravel | Wider garden paths that see wheelbarrows | Sturdy enough for tool traffic but still comfortable. |
| 1"-1 1/2" Walkway Gravel | Informal paths and side yards | Loose, natural look; requires an edge to contain it. |
| 2"-3" Walkway Gravel | Decorative edging and dry creek borders | Too large for walking on; used for visual contrast. |
A budget-friendly approach uses a single layer of smaller gravel. For a longer-lasting path, start with a base of larger stone and top it with a finer surface.
| Project | What to order | Depth or note |
|---|---|---|
| Play area surfacing | 3/8" Walkway Gravel | 2 to 3 inches; rounded edges are gentle under bare feet. |
| Garden path | 3/4" Walkway Gravel | 2 to 3 inches; stable for wheelbarrows and garden carts. |
| Patio base | 1"-1 1/2" Walkway Gravel | 4 to 6 inches; provides drainage and compaction under pavers. |
| Dry creek edge | 2"-3" Walkway Gravel | Single layer; decorative rock, not meant for walking. |
| Side-yard walkway | Walkway Gravel | 2 to 3 inches; general blend for light foot traffic. |
New Bern experiences about 43 days a year when the temperature drops below 32F. Those freeze-thaw cycles can shift the ground and cause gravel paths to settle unevenly. A deeper layer of stone helps the surface stay level.
Around 84 days each year bring at least a tenth of an inch of rain. That many wet days means delivery needs to be scheduled when the ground is firm enough for a heavy truck. Without a hard freeze to lift the surface, drainage and washout are what decide how long the material lasts. Soils mapped in the New Bern area are commonly somewhat excessively drained, which means they let water through quickly. That reduces the need for a thick drainage base, but the surface layer itself still needs to handle the runoff.
Snowfall is light here, about 1 inch a year, so plowing damage is rarely a concern. Ground freezing is not a significant factor, which keeps the base layer from heaving much.
To figure out how many tons you need, measure the length and width of your path and decide on a depth in inches. Multiply to get cubic feet, then convert to tons. Use our material calculators to do the math quickly.
Gravel Monkey is a national aggregate broker, so we do not have a local yard in New Bern. You order online by the ton, and the price is calculated at checkout based on your ZIP code. The truck delivers to your address in loads from 1 to more than 40 tons. Free delivery applies on qualifying orders.
Your delivery date must be at least 3 business days after the order date. You choose a window: morning 7 am to 12 pm or afternoon 12 pm to 5 pm. A valid phone number is required to confirm the delivery. You get an email confirmation, then a second email closer to the date with the scheduled window and a photo of the material being loaded. Delivery goes ahead only after you approve that second email.
You or someone you nominate must be at the site during the delivery window. The truck needs a road width of at least 12 feet. If access is restricted, the crew unloads as close as they safely can. If the delivery cannot be completed because of blocked access, hazards, or nobody being there, a missed delivery or redelivery fee may apply, and the order is not refunded.
Cancellations more than 24 hours after the order is placed carry a 25 percent processing fee. Orders cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled delivery are not refundable. Once you approve the second confirmation email, the order cannot be cancelled or refunded. Inspect the delivery within 48 hours and photograph anything that looks wrong. Gravel Monkey will put right a wrong material, wrong delivery location, or quality outside industry norms. It does not cover site access problems, weather changes after delivery, or natural variation in color, shape, and texture. The haulers take care, but Gravel Monkey is not responsible for damage to driveways, structures, or landscaping.

Depending on the project, you may need materials under or alongside the gravel. These pair well with walkway gravel:
