Crushed Stone ordered online by the ton. A dump truck delivers to your Ruidoso address and unloads right where you point.

The most common mistake people make with crushed stone is ordering the wrong size for the job. A small stone works for a paver bed, but it will wash out on a driveway surface.
The correction is to match the stone to its purpose: base material needs bigger, angular rock to lock together, while finish layers use a smaller, tighter stone. Ruidoso gets about 20 inches of precipitation a year, so drainage planning should guide every choice you make.
The split is between base material and finish material. Large crushed stone provides the load-bearing structure, while smaller grades create the smooth, compacted surface you walk or drive on.
| Product | Use | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 3/8" Crushed Stone | Paver setting bed and tight fill | Compact under pavers for a level base that drains |
| 3/4" Crushed Stone | The all-purpose size for base and drainage | Works under driveways, patios, and in French drains |
| 1"-1 1/2" Crushed Stone | Heavy base and erosion control | Used where weight and stability matter most |
| 2"-3" Crushed Stone | Rip rap style edging and deep fill | Handles heavy runoff and stabilizes steep slopes |
| #57 Crushed Stone | Concrete aggregate, French drains, driveway base | Clean, angular stone that locks without compaction |
| #67 Stone | Concrete mix and drainage backfill | Smaller than #57, good for tight spaces |
| #8 Stone | Paver joints and pipe bedding | Fills gaps between larger stones without washing out easily |
| #10 Rock Screenings | Leveling course under pavers | Dusty fines create a smooth, compacted surface |
Choose between a budget-friendly option that does the job now and a longer-term solution that stands up to Ruidoso's weather. The table below matches each project to the right product.
| Project | What to order | Depth or note |
|---|---|---|
| French drain | 3/4" or #57 Crushed Stone | Deep enough to wrap the pipe and allow water flow |
| Pipe backfill | 3/4" Crushed Stone | Compacts around the pipe to prevent settling |
| Driveway base layer | 1"-1 1/2" Crushed Stone | 4 to 6 inches for residential traffic |
| Concrete slab base | 3/4" Crushed Stone | 4 to 6 inches, compacted before the pour |
| Paver bedding | 3/8" Crushed Stone or #8 Stone | 1 to 2 inches of clean, angular stone under the sand |
About 141 days a year drop below 32F, so the work window for digging and compacting runs from late spring through early fall. Without a hard freeze to lift the surface, drainage and washout are what decide how long the material lasts.
Only about 53 days a year bring at least a tenth of an inch of rain, but when it rains the ground around Ruidoso takes water in very slowly. Most rain runs across the surface, which means a deeper base and careful drainage matter more here than elsewhere.
About 26 inches of snowfall each year can damage a loose surface during plowing, so a well-compacted top layer with angular stone resists shifting better than a rounded material.
To estimate tonnage, measure the length and width of the area in feet and multiply by the depth in inches, then use our crushed stone calculator to convert volume to tons. The calculator accounts for compaction and coverage based on the stone size you choose.

Your delivery date must be at least 3 business days after the order date. You pick a window: morning (7 am to 12 pm) or afternoon (12 pm to 5 pm). Late spring through early fall is the best window. About 141 days a year drop below 32F, and while the ground does not freeze deeply, the workability improves when temperatures stay above freezing during the day. Ordering early in the week also gives you time to compact before a weekend project.
The smallest load is 1 ton. The ground around Ruidoso is in hydrologic group D, meaning water runs across the surface, so a 1-ton load works for small drainage fixes but larger projects need more material to achieve proper depth and drainage.
After you order, we send an email confirmation with your order details. Closer to the delivery date, we send a second email with the scheduled window and a photo of your material being loaded. You must approve that second email before the truck leaves. The delivery window you chose at checkout applies.
The truck needs a road width of at least 12 feet. If your driveway or access path is narrower, the crew will unload as close as they can safely reach. You are responsible for confirming that the property can handle a heavy dump truck before delivery.
